Chambers Creek Master Plan // University Place, WA

The master plan for the 25-acre site incorporates elements of the former industrial use of the site as a gravel mine. Features include a dog park, ecological arboretum to display the flora of the Northwest, picnic shelter, planted mounds with catwalk and viewing platform, playground and a tunnel under the adjacent railroad to access the two mile stretch of beach along Puget Sound owned by Pierce County. The landforms are sculpted to reflect the landscape of the former gravel mine, in large concave, scalloped forms. The plan also repurpose some of the original industrial artifacts of the site. The innovative design for this master plan referenced the history of the site while creating a both active and passive use park on the south end of Chambers Creek Properties and Chambers Bay Golf Course.
