Moore-turner
heritage Garden
Spokane, Washington
Richard Hartlage played a central role in the revitalization of the historic Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens, a landmark of early 20th-century landscape design in Spokane. Collaborating on the site’s Cultural Landscape Report, Richard helped shape the vision for a $1.2 million restoration effort that honored the garden’s original character while meeting contemporary preservation standards.
As lead designer, he completed the full design and documentation for the restoration, integrating historically appropriate plantings, paths, and features with sensitive updates for durability and public use. He also developed a comprehensive interpretive plan and custom graphic materials, helping to connect visitors with the garden’s layered history and design legacy.
Substantial work done while at AHBL, Inc.
"The only heritage gardens in both Spokane and Eastern Washington…a bright spot on the South Hill since they were restored more than a decade ago."
