Cascade COR & Rainier Science Buildings // Tacoma, WA

Cascade COR at Pierce College houses the student union, library, administration, and admissions offices. The landscape for this building was a key contributor to the identity of the college wanted to project to the students and visitors to the campus. The landscape signifies the gateway into higher learning and projects a professional image to the community. The main walk and signage create an entry element and icon visible from the parking area and most of campus. The landscape was designed to be sustainable and visually engaging. In addition to Cascade COR, Richard Hartlage also designed the native meadows that surround the new Science Building, which includes atriums planted with primitive plants and a walk designed as a demonstration of rocks to explain geology in a tangible way to students.
