Garage pavilion
Medina, Washington
Located in the Seattle region, this one-acre garage pavilion site serves as a venue for nonprofit and private events, incorporates a guest apartment, and houses the owners’ car collection. Set within a residential neighborhood, the building and landscape are carefully scaled to integrate with their surroundings. The site features a series of exterior open spaces designed to support outdoor events, including an expansive drivable lawn, native tree and shrub buffers for screening and softness, and a cascading sequence of bioretention planters. These planters step down across the site, slowing stormwater movement while providing both ecological function and a distinctive landscape feature.
