Land Morphology designed the four-acre landscape surrounding McKinley Chalet Resort’s new hotel in Alaska, Ridge View.  The site was reclaimed from an asphalt parking lot and is nestled into a spruce covered slope, which provided a natural buffer between the hotel from surrounding roadways and afforded a delightful way to access the building from a raised walkway suspended through the trees.  Enhancing views to the mountains, reducing asphalt and gravel areas, buffering the new building from roadways and adjacent hotel rooms, and preserving existing mature stands of trees were all key considerations in the design.  Design features include a wildflower meadow and berm, pedestrian paths and trail connections, shuttle bus stops, and extensive native plantings throughout.
