Cascade COR &
Rainier Science Buildings
Tacoma, Washington
Cascade COR serves as the heart of Pierce College, housing the student union, library, administration, and admissions offices. The landscape design plays a vital role in shaping the identity the college projects to its students and visitors. Serving as a gateway into higher learning, it conveys a professional and welcoming image to the community.
A prominent main walk and signage establish a strong entry sequence, creating an iconic element visible from the parking areas and much of the campus. Designed to be both sustainable and visually engaging, the landscape enhances the student experience while reflecting the college’s values.
In addition to Cascade COR, founding partner Richard Hartlage designed the surrounding native meadows for the new Science Building. These feature atriums planted with primitive species and a demonstration walk that uses rock formations to make geology tangible for students.
